This is the time of the year where all the brands roll out their new 2014 models of their new motocross bikes. We have summarized the news worth to know.
Honda CRF 450R 2014
The twin piped beauty tweaks a few things but as the 2013 was such a loved machine, little could be changed. New cylinder ports, new FI setup and a redesigned muffler which all adds more horsepower. The honda 450 has gone through a slimming program for the front and back to be able whip and scrub the bike better! Honda delivers as always!
Honda CRF 250R 2014
A complete new bike with a new frame, tweaked fork and a new shock. Swingarm is new including linkage and also now the 450-look with twin mufflers! Of course they also redesigned the engine to give it great bottom to midrange power. We all are pumped to see this mean great handling bike on the track!
Kawasaki KX450F 2014
The AMA championship winning bike that Ryan Villopoto kills the competion with. Is still delivering outstanding performance. Still with Launch contro and now with Kayaba air/oil forks with a airpump complementary on purchase! Engine is tuned (like it would need it?) with a new piston. New front brakes and the possibility to adjust handlebar to 4 different positions and footpegs with 2, all to make the rider match the bike as good as possible! Cant wait to see this armpump-machine in action.
Kawasaki KX250F 2014
The championship bike still continues improving with launch contol and adjustable ECU. For the rest similar tweaks as the big brother 450.
KTM 450 SX-F 2014
Ktm is still investing hard and continue to improve their models. Minor tweaks this year including improved engine with better clutch, 4-speed transmission (in Europe), new wiring, better molding in the seat (finally),improved brakes, better swingarm reliability with reduced weight. Wp suspension is optimized and the exhaust is adapted to stricter FIM noise regulations with a higher torque and less noise as a result. EMS (engine management system) can also be re-mapped with a “map-select-switch” (available to buy as extra). The SX bikes also have Renthal 827 Fatbars and a new fuel tank/lid on 2014 models. This is also still the only brand out there with electric starter!
KTM 350 SX-F 2014
The in-between model has the same minor tweaks as the 450, but also now featuring a resonator chamber on the exhaust to comply with the new FIM rules.
The cylinder head is redesigned to get more peak power, new crankshaft, new balancer shaft, starter and as with the 450/250 it has also a simplified wiring. With all this the 350 is now very close to 450-power and still with 250-handling! We can’t wait to get our hands on this one later on this year!
KTM 250 SX-F 2014
The SXF250 has more or less same changes as 450 but also with improved engine and chassis to continue dominate the MX2 class. Gearbox has now 5 gears instead of 6. New starter, cylinder head, pistons, crank, balancer shaft, clutch and EMS (engine management system). All in all resulting in better reliability, more power and less maintenance. Great!
Suzuki RM-Z450 2014
The bike who won the Transworld and RacerX shootout in 2013 is still delivering top standard. SFF (basically one leg damp, the other spring)Showa front damper and a redesigned Show shock to give you the best handling and smooth operation. New igntion mapping, better piston, Muffler remade for better bottom to mid power.
Also a “quick fuel adjustment coupler” is provided to quickly swap between rich and lean mix for the EFI. Also they chuck in a gripper seat and a Renthal fatbar.
Now we just wish the dealer in Dubai supplied enough or any bikes!
Suzuki RM-Z250 2014
A great bike loved by many pro-riders. It has more or less same changes as 450 and improved Cooling (needed here in Dubai) and a smoother transmission. Please give us the possibility to buy these bikes here!
Yamaha YZ450F 2014
The bike who revolutionary entered the class with a back-to-front engine is still doing the mass-centralization trick and add a few other tweaks to an already great machine. Engine is redesigned to give quicker response and better low-to-mid power feeling as well as the GYTR tuner is a clever little computer who adjusts air/fuel mixture depending on track conditions. Wow!
Yamaha YZ250F 2014
Rolling out a brand new EFI engine, forwad-positioned as the 450. To give it better handling and control but also they changed exhaust pipe to improve the power characteristics. Other changes as similar to the 450. We are all looking forward to see this one live, looks very promising!
