Dubai Fitness Championship was a success. It all went down in Dubai Mall where the icerink is held. Fitness First middle east was the organizer together with Dubai Sports council sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Hefty price sum totalling over 200000AED for the winner in the final.
The competition was going on over 3 days and had a great variety of exercises to spread the skills across the competitors. 36 women and 36 men fought trough the days with exercises like Tsunami bar lunges, push-ups, box jumps, burpees, skier, farmers carry, sprints and for the first time swimming.
Due to the high price sum international fitness competitors got their eyes on this event and a handful flew in to qualify and join the event. Not surprisingly both women and men finals was taken home by non-UAE residents. Crossfit, which is the base for this kind of event, is just starting to grow big here in UAE but is way after the progress of the European and US markets.
We hope to see more of these events in UAE to raise the awareness of fitness and health here, as the UAE population is one of the most overweight in the world.
Winners in Men category was Frederik Aegidius from Denmark and in Women Annie Thorisdottir from Iceland. Vikings have strength!
Hope to see you all next year
